WBA adapts to changing project requirements

Two hockey rinks, a 205-room Marriott hotel, various retailers, restaurants and a 750-car indoor parking garage make up the 600,000 sq. ft. complex that is Harbor Center. Located in downtown Buffalo, NY – the backyard of Watson Bowman Acme’s corporate HQ – this mixed use development is a shining $200 million contribution to the city’s downtown revitalisation and represents another building block in Terry & Kim Pegula’s legacy of investment in Buffalo.

WBA entered the picture with the help of Patterson Stevens, a local contractor and WBA Factory Trained Applicator, who needed the right joints for Harbor Center’s parking garage. The project demanded 2.5″ joint openings and needed to be fire-rated, so Wabo®FireShield was the perfect choice. The order was placed, and construction began. However, the project soon met an unexpected challenge.

Due to cold weather and construction issues, the 2.5″ openings became 4″. Knowing this would mean larger expansion joints, WBA worked closely with Patterson to change the order, as well as anticipate the need for a joint cover (Wabo®SafetyFlex) to minimise risk to pedestrians and vehicular traffic. WBA’s efforts allowed them to adapt to the changing project needs and recommend additional products necessary to ensure a quality job.
